Despite my initial reluctance to work with a “computer program” I discovered after awhile how I could calm a “racing mind”, let go of “shoulds”, and this had an impact on my violin playing.

Business

When I reached out to John I was looking for a coach to support me in becoming a more effective leader in my job. I soon came to realize that John’s holistic approach would offer a lot more than just that. His calm and patient manner of asking basic questions helped me to reflect on my actual goals in life. John greatly supported me in becoming a more self confident person by defining principals on how I want to interact with others. John’s advice is actionable and helps breaking habits. His analysis is blunt and cuts through complexity.  The training helped me take bold decisions in my professional life and made me become a more balanced and happy person.

John and Neurofeedback was exactly what I was looking for: increasing my focus and concentration in a very short period of time. John’s support during our project together was very professional and personable. He went the extra mile to explain in detail and also to find the exact right approach to address my specific requirements. He also provided me with measures to continue my personal development after our project finished. The combination of software and tools and John’s coaching enabled me to achieve results beyond my expectation.

John is a very energetic and supportive coach who helped me immensely develop a fresh and balanced perspective after a most challenging period. Contrary to other “easy you can do it” types, John has a knack for simplifying the change process and driving it back to simple principles, giving you the confidence to face challenges head-on without forcing rituals or mantras on you. He has been invaluable to foster my development beyond the widespread short-term perspective that everybody sooner or later falls prey to. He is extremely flexible in adapting the timeframe and pace around one’s schedule. The Resilience Builder software that one uses to keep track of one’s state and progress throughout the training is also straightforward to use and plots one’s current basic physiological state very clearly. I enthusiastically recommend John and his HeartSmart© program to anyone.

I have met John on Agilia Conference 2013 for first time in my life and I was  totally impressed. With his performance how  he astonished everybody in a hall was really amazing. For me, it was great experience and I have learn a lot about sustainability and what does it mean actually.

I am glad, that I was there and it was definitely the best lecture of the day.

There are dozens of remarkable opportunities these days: Global business and knowledge society created environment with no limits in building career and gaining experience. It is very easy to invest most of our time and energy in work-related stuff. Some of us might than forget about true value of life, family, health or friends. John’s speech at Agilia conference in Czech Republic made me think. I had to reconsider the definition of success and my priorities. Thank you for that, John!

“Yesterday John gave a talk at Liip on A Different Mindset for A Better Retrospective. Different modes of brain activity can be distinguished in the various areas of our brains – from Delta waves when zoned-out all the way up to High Beta in situations of concentration and pressure. He explained how Neurofeedback can make stress visible and how switching between relaxed (Alpha) and concentrated (Beta) modes of working can make us both more satisfied and more productive. John especially pointed out that both modes do have their advantages, and how it is crucial in certain situations, like a Retrospective, to be able to switch to the “appropriate” mode in order to be effective.

Learning about this model of our mind’s operations was eye-opening. Thanks, John!”

Life – General

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN – A REFERENCE IN A NUTSHELL FOR MR. JOHN STYFFE

Hello, I am a 37 year old happily married family man, three children, western European, working in the stressful, and at times painfully boring, banking industry. I carried around some “baggage” from a problematic youth (divorced parents, alcoholic stepfather etc.) which, I believe now, had left some typical traces on my personality so to say (always putting pressure on myself, not easily able to cease and enjoy the moment, thinking too much, feeling lonely and insecure at times).

One morning in August 2008 I felt really dizzy at work, I ignored it. One week later it happened again, like never before. I went to the hospital to get myself checked out and mentioned to the doctor that I also felt some strain on my chest. The young doctor who treated me concluded from my ECG that I had an irregular heartbeat, and reacted in an alarmed way. Turns out he misread my ECG, what he saw was my normal heart rate variability.

This event triggered a life changing event. I suffered my first true panic attack right there, after the young doctor told me I had an irregular heartbeat. One week later I was back in the hospital, suffering from a “heart attack”, another week later I was at the cardiologist. There’s nothing wrong with my heart, but I did fall in this deep dark hole facing months of fear and all its very unpleasant side effects (burning sensation and heavy strain on my chest, over-sensitivity to my own heartbeat causing sleepless nights, becoming an overnight hypochondriac etc.) Horrible, and so NOT me!

Having been averse to any form of therapy for all my life, for the first time I was looking for help as I REALLY needed it. But I would not just have trusted anyone. I count myself very lucky to have met John Styffe, a most understanding and trustworthy man who has a warm and pragmatic approach to deal with these kind of situations. He gave me what I needed to get myself together and move on. John opened that big front door for me to discover about biofeedback, emotional intelligence, understanding stress, understanding myself. And ever since I entered through this door, I want to know more. And so I gained a new interest in life, a very welcome one, supporting me, and not in the last place, my family.

Thank you John!

“The concept of biofeedback and neurofeedback were first introduced to me by John Styffe in Zurich. John talked about, and demonstrated through a visual graph, the positive impact of both these techniques on ones state of mind. I have benefited a lot (and still am!) from the simple techniques learnt from him. The techniques learnt from him help me relax, stay focused and have clarity in my thoughts. I would recommend his programme to anyone who wants to learn how to de-stress and stay calm.”

Neurofeedback is helping me to concentrate better when I am reading a book. Especially to keep my mind focused on the subject I am reading. Usually my mind keeps wandering and thinking something else and then I have no idea what I am reading. Also since starting Neurofeedback I am feeling very good and very confident about myself. Neurofeedback is helping me to get my self-esteem back. I have a tendency to just focus on one thing and do not see the rest. With Neurofeedback I can start to see out of my narrow focus and see the rest around me. It gives me a way to focus but not only on one thing. Neurofeedback is helping me to let go. My biggest problems come from fear and low self-esteem that with Neurofeedback are disapearing. Still have my days between. It helps me to let go of what ever is troubling me. More people should do Neurofeedback. It changed my life. I feel great about myself and I am starting to feel that I can do anything I want.

John is a highly committed person in the range of his professional work. His major quality I wish to share here is that he listen very deeply to his “patients”, knows how to lead the whole HeartSmart coaching, point out on the places of work by the individuals in order to understand the reasons, the whys and moreover give confidence in whatever direction and path to go to ! John has a very authentic way to accompany the people, to lead them through the steps of HeartSmart, give a very clear picture and but above all, has much empathy and compassion, which is so valuable as a coach!

John is an excellent and experienced coach. He has many years of experience working with adults and children. He is skilled and successful in one-to-one counselling, working with adults and children. Where appropriate he augments his experience and talent with two proven applied technologies, neurofeedback and biofeedback. John is a motivating and sincere individual. I recommend him as a coach. He’ll help you become a stronger person.

Problems or problematic issues have their own history that are strongly related to my life. The solution or at least the relief lies always within myself. Understanding that and learning to work with that understanding are the 10 step programs most useful benefits for me. But what I might add is that without an experienced, skilled and sensitive coach, all these efforts lose their power, because if no one is there to confirm your insights, you will always start to question them. People like me, whose problems often are based in low self esteem and a weak perception of their own capabilities, need some reassurance, from time to time, or else the new belief in themselves and in their usefulness, fades. This is at least my experience. This is the reason why the whole program isn’t worth the paper its written on unless there is valuable coach to assist, reassert, confirm, reward, share and show compassion.

Sport

I would like to recommend John Styffe’s HeartSmart® program. I started work with him to improve my golf game and concentration. But it has helped  much more than I expected; also in my daily life. John has a very subtle  and kind way which made me feel comfortable, and convinced me I can make much more out of my life.

Neurofeedback

I am Mike Leupi and I am a professional skier, so I have a little bit of an idea about mental training and John Styffe is really good in  this area. His neurofeedback helped me a lot in keeping focused in my skiing. It also helped with self regulation, to stay calm and to be focused whenever I need to be. That’s one of things he taught me. He also taught me a little bit about life; why people are reacting sometimes with anger and things like that. For me it was perfect to work with him and I will work together with him in the future. I now know a lot more about people and why they react and why I react. He’s teaches many little things but they are very important in sports and in life. Before I worked with him I had no idea how much my mind wandered and now I am much more aware of it. It is unbelievable how much people’s minds is wander. If you can control that, you’re a different person! Go and try it I can only recommend it!

Youth

After that I had appointments with John once or twice a week. I had Neurofeedback sessions and after talked about many things, things that were on my mind, things that bothered me, things I did not want to talk about with my mother. On top of Neurofeedback I took Vital substances. Since Vital substance have been adjusted, plus Neurofeedback, there has been great improvement much fewer seizures. At the beginning of Neurofeedback I had a couple of seizure per month, difficulties to make friends, and was very unhappy with myself. After a few months, seizures occurred about one or two within 2 months, and I also started to accept the person that I am.
In Feb. 03 I decided to take a break and observe how I make out without Neurofeedback. Since than, I have had only one seizure, and I have finally learned to be content with myself. I reached my fast improvements in regard to my epilepsy and discontentment with myself, are thanks to John Styffe, his support, and Biofeedback.

Parenting/Family

We have worked with John as a family and have found it an exciting and challenging time. My children have definitively benefitted from their neuro- and biofeedback sessions. Their self-esteem, ability to focus, reading skills, comprehension and concentration levels have improved markedly and been noted by their teachers. As a parent I was very much part of this on-going process and learnt how to handle stressful academic and domestic situations in a positive manner. Throughout the sessions John has been a patient, thoughtful and empathetic coach and a source of consistent motivation and encouragement. I have no hesitation in recommending him as a coach for any family.

Elizabeth
Mother of Three

When my son’s kindergarten teacher said there was a problem with him, we were at a lost what to do. We had disagreed with the doctor the school sent us to because the only suggested treatment was drugs. Then I found John and his brain training program. It really helped my son. He became calmer and was able to focus better, even when it was not something he liked. John was very patient with my rather over-active boy. The results were not an overnight change but gradual and my son enjoyed the sessions. It was also such an encouragement for me to have someone, like John, who understood my son and knew how to motivate him. John also understood my position as a parent and encouraged me as well. He advised us on not just the Neurofeedback aspect but also on diet and other related matters, which was really helpful. We still use the Resilience Builder every now again, even though we don’t go for regular sessions anymore. Thank you, John, for all your hard work and efforts!
